Attractions in Konark Sun Temple

3 places to see, with what each one is and how long it takes.

Astronomical Chariot Wheels

Attraction

The 24 masterfully carved stone wheels lining the temple base, intricately detailed with geometric spokes that function as accurate sundials.

Nata Mandir (Dance Hall)

Attraction

An elevated columned stone structure standing before the main hall, carpeted entirely with fine reliefs of classical musicians and dancers.

Chandrabhaga Beach

Attraction

Three kilometres from the temple, and the beach the Sun temple was oriented towards. At Magha Saptami, in January or February, pilgrims bathe here before dawn and walk to the temple after — the one day it is crowded.

Elsewhere in Odisha

Not in Konark Sun Temple — these are in other towns across the state.

Shree Jagannath Temple

Attraction

Puri (Jagannath Temple & Beach)

Twelfth century, with a spire around sixty-five metres high. Hindus only, and no phones or leather past the gate. The flag at the top is changed every day by a man who climbs the spire without ropes — worth waiting for, from outside if you cannot go in.
