History
Founded around 1459 by the Rajput ruler Rao Jodha, Mehrangarh was expanded by his successors through the 17th century. Its seven gates include Jai Pol, commemorating an 1806 victory over Jaipur and Bikaner, and Fattehpol, commemorating a victory over the Mughals. Rudyard Kipling described it as "a palace that might have been built by Titans and coloured by the morning sun."
