Two things bring people to this medieval fortified town at the eastern end of Diu Island: the fortress and the old Portuguese cathedral. Everything else here is a working fishing town, which is the real argument for staying a night rather than passing an afternoon — the place is not arranged around visitors. Diu district is the tenth least populated in India, and the town feels it; crowds are not your problem. One modern footnote worth knowing: in April 2018 it was reported as the first city in India running entirely on renewable energy during daylight hours.
