Ladakh's most-climbed big peak, and the most often underestimated. At 6,153 metres it is the highest thing in the Stok Range, and non-technical enough that people treat it as a first go at high-altitude mountaineering — which is exactly the trap. The terrain will not stop you; the altitude will, unless you acclimatise properly before and during the ascent. The route runs up the Stok valley from Stok village, inside Hemis National Park, the summit some 15 km southwest of Leh. In late July and August all but the top is usually snow-free. Over-tourism closed it to trekking from 2020 to 2023.
