Srisailam Dam

Concrete across a gorge is not usually a reason to travel, and this one earns its stop mostly for where it stands: deep in the Nallamala Hills, at the point where the Tungabhadra runs into the Krishna, with the far bank already in Telangana. The wall reaches 143 metres at its highest and runs 512 metres long, and the reservoir behind it spreads over 616 square kilometres. Its power station is the second largest in India by capacity. Nearly everyone arrives because they were going to the temple town of Srisailam anyway. Treat it that way rather than as a destination of its own.
