Before you reach the main entrance there is a tower to get past: the Gaaligopuram, the wind tower, some seventy feet of it with ten feet of gold-plated kalashams sitting on top. Yeragudipati Venkatachalam panthulu put it up, and it is what everyone photographs. The temple behind it is one of the oldest in Nellore, believed to date to the 12th century, standing on the bank of the Penna River and dedicated to Ranganatha, the resting form of Vishnu. The Brahmotsavam falls in March or April depending on the calendar, which is when it is busiest and when it is most worth seeing.
