Nothing here is old. The pagoda opened in 2010, Burmese in style, spread over a 20-hectare complex on land given by the state and known in Tai-Khamti as Kongmu Kham. Age is not the point; scale is, and it holds up. The World Tripitaka Foundation is developing the site as India's first international Tripitaka centre, so expect it to keep growing. Tinsukia in Assam, 68 km away, is the nearest railway station, which makes this a sensible stop when you are crossing between the two states rather than a journey in itself.
