Akhnoor Fort is known for
A short history
Construction began in 1762 under Raja Tegh Singh and was completed by his son Raja Alam Singh in 1802. The site is historically significant across three periods. Harappan pottery, including jars and beakers, marks it as possibly the northernmost extent of the Indus Valley Civilisation. Early historic pottery represents a second phase. The third is Kushana-era: artefacts including a rubble diaper masonry wall flanked by a 3-metre wide street. Historians suggest Harappans may have used the nearby Jia Pota Ghat to access regional settlements. [Source: jammu.nic.in/tourist-place/akhnoor-fort]
