A short history

Kempe Gowda I, a vassal of the Vijayanagara Empire and founder of Bengaluru, built the original mud fortification in 1537, establishing his capital at Bengaluru Pete. Between 1673 and 1704, Mysore ruler Chikkadeva Raya Wodeyar enlarged the mud fort. In 1761, Hyder Ali replaced the mud fort with a stone fort, and Tipu Sultan further improved the structure. On 21 March 1791, during the Third Mysore War, British forces under Lord Cornwallis captured the fort, breaching its walls near the Delhi Gate; over 2,000 Mysore soldiers died in the siege. The British subsequently dismantled most of the fort through the 1930s, leaving only the Delhi Gate and two bastions standing. [Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangalore_Fort]
