The Mara name is Pala Tipo, swallowing lake, and it comes out of a Mara story of their own; in Mizo it is Palak Dil. Whatever you call it, this is the largest lake in Mizoram, lying near Phura village in Siaha district, in the far south under the Mara Autonomous District Council. The lake is the core of Palak Wildlife Sanctuary and carries most of what lives there, this being Indo-Burma hotspot country. It has even given its name to the assembly constituency around it. A long way to go for still water, and worth it if wildlife is why you came.
