Be honest with yourself before driving out here: the tourism that once existed is gone. The boat club has closed, the boating bay is damaged, the garden is unkept and the tourist bungalow is a dilapidated shell. What remains is the wetland itself, made in 1952 by throwing a head regulator across the Sutlej in the Shivalik foothills, and now a Ramsar site with 154 bird species recorded, along with the endangered turtle Chitra indica and the python Python molurus. That makes it a good morning's birdwatching. It does not make it a day out.
