The Maharaja of Patiala brought two six-foot statues, Maa Kali and the Paawan Jyot, from Bengal in 1936 and built this temple to house them, opposite the Baradari Gardens. It is the kul devi shrine of a great many families, which is why it is busy in a way that has nothing to do with tourism. Through the nine days of the Navratras it fills up. If you want the place calm, come at any other time, then walk across to the gardens.
