This was never a destination. It was a highway-inn on the Mughal military road between Delhi and Lahore, where the royal couple broke the journey going up and coming back. Akbar had the first version built, to a plan by the architect Hafiz Rakhna; Shah Jahan rebuilt it, and Jahangir added to it later. The name carries the layout — Aam for public use, Khas kept for royalty. What is left is remains rather than rooms, so set your expectations there and come for the idea of the place: an emperor's motorway services. Half an hour, on the way to somewhere else.
