Famously nicknamed the 'Queen of the Hills', this historic colonial-era hill station looks out over the Doon Valley and Shivalik ranges. Mussoorie is a legendary hill station at an altitude of roughly 2,009 metres in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. It stands as one of India's oldest and most commercialized mountain getaways, established during the British Raj.

Why visit

Mussoorie's Mall Road is a crowd; Landour, just above it, is not. Walk the Landour loop instead — a few kilometres of deodar and old cottages — and come down for the Doon valley at dusk.

How to reach

Nearest airport: Jolly Grant Airport (DED), Dehradun (55 km). Excellently connected via a winding mountain highway from Dehradun. Local buses, shared vehicles, and private taxis run around the clock.
