An offbeat hill station popularly dubbed the 'Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand', and the base for the trek up to the world's highest Shiva temple. Chopta is a small hamlet of untouched alpine meadow and evergreen forest in Rudraprayag district. At 2,680 metres, it lies within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary.

How to reach

Nearest airport: Jolly Grant Airport (DED), Dehradun (211 km). State roads run in from Rishikesh through Kund or Ukhimath. Driving yourself or hiring a private cab works best.
