Most Hindu temples in this part of Goa were moved out of the Velhas Conquistas to get clear of the Portuguese. Nagueshi was not, and still stands on its original ground in Bandode village, about 800 metres off Farmagudi on the Farmagudi-Kavlem-Ponda road and roughly 4 km from the Ponda bus stand, though it has been renovated many times over. The thing to find is the tali, a water tank ringed by palms and built so that from one particular spot on its edge you catch the reflection of the Nagesh idol and the lamps in the inner sanctum. The temple has banned foreign visitors, citing dress and conduct.

Old Goa, or Velha Goa, stands on the bank of the Mandovi a short drive from Panaji — the former capital of the Portuguese Eastern Empire, and still a dense cluster of colonial churches several centuries old. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is at the centre of it. The Basilica is baroque, and unusual for it: the facade is dark laterite, left un-plastered rather than finished. Inside are gilded altars and a marble and bronze mausoleum. Straight across the square is the Se Cathedral, one of the largest churches in Asia, built in the Portuguese-Manueline manner.
