A banker built this one. Seth Puranmal Ganeriwala, who handled money for the Nizams, put up the temple at Mallepally when Mallepally was still a village outside the city, and walled twenty-five acres of it behind twenty feet of masonry. That wall did unexpected work in the late 1940s, when people reportedly sheltered behind it from the Razakars. Six wells were sunk in the grounds and five survive. The Nizams paid for the upkeep, one granting revenue from two Berar villages, another funding a rebuild, which says more about how Hyderabad actually worked than any plaque does.
