Vijayawada works for a living. It is the second largest city in Andhra Pradesh and its main commercial hub, sitting on the Krishna River with the Eastern Ghats and the Indrakeeladri Hills on either side, and most of what moves through it is trade rather than tourism. This is the state's mango town above all, with the Nunna market shifting Banganapalle and Totapuri out to other states and to export buyers. The Kanaka Durga Temple pulls millions of devotees a year, so go early or accept the company. The Prakasam Barrage crosses the Krishna here and carries you over into Guntur district.
