There is no idol in the sanctum. What devotees come for is a small pit filled with water, which is taken to be the goddess herself, and it catches most first-time visitors off guard. The shrine sits by the Jor Pukhury tanks in the Latasil locality of central Guwahati, with a Shivalaya alongside and a pond behind both. A stone inscription dates the present building to 1725, under the Ahom king Siva Singha, though a land grant a decade earlier already names Ugratara beside Kamakhya, so something stood here well before. Quick to see; pair it with Kamakhya rather than making a trip of its own.
