Sujata Stupa

Bakraur

Bakraur is a village a little east of Bodh Gaya, directly across the Phalgu River from the town where the Buddha is said to have reached enlightenment. It is held to be the home of Sujata, the woman who fed him milk and rice shortly before that morning, and a stupa to her stands in the village. The crossing is short and most itineraries never make it. Walk over in the late afternoon, once the day visitors are done on the Bodh Gaya side, and give the stupa the half hour it deserves rather than the ten minutes it usually gets.
