Two spans of rubber-tree root, one grown above the other, and a long walk down to reach them. Getting there means a trek of 45 kilometres, or 6,500 steps, from Cherrapunji. Roots like these take around 25 years before a bridge carries weight, then hold 50 people at a time and keep working for 500 years. Tourism has told on this one and its health has degraded, which is part of why a replica was built at Nongriat to show the Khasi and Jaintia craft. There is a waterfall nearby. Start early and tread lightly.
