The reason to come is the Sangai, the brow-antlered deer that lives nowhere else, and this is the only place to see one apart from Keibul Lamjao, the floating national park where the wild herd is. The zoo at Iroisemba is medium-sized, and the collection is mostly Manipur's own rather than a global line-up: Schedule 1 amphibians, birds, mammals and reptiles. The Central Zoo Authority made it the coordinating zoo for the breeding centre for both Sangai and serow. Any month of the year works. Just not a Monday, when it is usually shut.
