Bela Pratapgarh takes its name from the goddess inside this temple: Belha Bhavani, the town's patron and a local form of the Devi. The shrine sits on the bank of the Sai river and works as a living centre of Shakti worship rather than a monument to be looked at. The building itself is only about two hundred years old, though the tradition it carries in this part of northern India is a great deal older. Worth half an hour if you are already in Pratapgarh district, and not a reason to make the journey on its own.
