Ayodhya's newest temple complex stands on the ground where the Babri Masjid stood until a Hindu nationalist mob demolished it in 1992, and which many Hindus hold to be Ram Janmabhoomi, the birthplace of Rama. The Supreme Court awarded the disputed site for a temple in 2019 and gave Muslims land at Dhannipur, nearby in Ayodhya. Ground was broken in August 2020 and the temple was consecrated in January 2024. It is very new and it draws crowds. Come early, and read the history before you arrive rather than after.
