Start with the awkward part: the lake is closed to tourists, so treat anything calling it an attraction with suspicion. It lies at 3,830 metres on the road toward the Jelep Pass, twenty kilometres beyond Tsomgo, filled by snowmelt in summer and by the monsoon after that, and it is where the Rangpo chu rises before running down to the Teesta. The lake is known for its trout, and there is a large fish farm nearby with a guesthouse. Until that closure lifts, this is a name to know on the map rather than a stop to plan around.
