A public garden close to Ranipool in Pakyong district, established in 1922 to grow fruit for the local colonial officers and later turned over to ipecacuanha, the medicinal plant that gave it its second name, Ipecac Garden. When that crop was dropped the place became an orchidarium and a garden for picnickers, which is what you will find now. It is not a headline sight, and it does not pretend to be. It did hold the International Floriculture Show in 2008, drawing 50,000 people on each of its three days, so the ground takes a crowd well. Bring lunch and a weekday morning.
