Champapuri is a neighbourhood of Bhagalpur standing on the site of ancient Champa, capital of the Anga Mahajanapada and the main centre of the Anga cultural region. The pull here is Jain. This is claimed as the only place where all five kalyanas of Bhagwan Vasupujya took place: garbha, janma, diksha, kevalagnana and moksha. Adinatha and Parshwanatha are each said to have spent a monsoon here, and Mahavira two of his, the third and the twelfth. An ancient Champanala temple stands on the site, with an idol inside. Come for the weight of the ground rather than for the architecture.
