Manipur's second lake, and the one that gets none of Loktak's attention. Pumlenpat lies about 68 km south of Imphal and 45 km from Thoubal, ringed by villages that live off its fish. Small islands are scattered across it, and people have settled on those islands, which is precisely the problem: the encroachment has pushed the lake to the verge of disappearing. Come to understand what is happening to Manipur's wetlands rather than to see a beauty spot. Loktak does the scenery better, and there is no shame in choosing it instead.
