Lokanatha Siva Temple

For years this one had no visible door: earth had piled against every side up to the bandhana, which is how it got the name Amuha deula, the temple with no entrance. Debala Mitra dug out the north wall in 1972 and found the way in. The sanctum was empty, and the dedication to Shiva rests on local tradition and the carving on the outer walls. It is an 11th-century miniature of Lingaraja, which stands across the road. It is also abandoned and crumbling, still buried on the other three sides. Ten minutes, if you are already at Lingaraja.
