On the southern embankment of Bindusagar sits a monastery in poor shape, one shrine still in worship and the rest of the building dilapidated, held between shared ownership and the state Endowments Department, which is usually how a place ends up like this. It is a branch of the Sankarananda Matha at Puri, founded by Sankara Sivananda Saraswati and still headed by a mahanta. Do not make a journey for it. If you are walking the tank between Lingaraja and the Old Town lanes, it is a doorway worth glancing into.
