Named for where it sits: 300 metres east of Lingaraja, which makes it Purvesvara, one of four shrines marking the compass points around the big temple. It is 13th century, still in use, looked after by a local association, and the rituals continue with Sivaratri, Sankranti and Rudraviseka. What is left is modest. The superstructure is gone, so the vimana cannot be read; the jagamohana survives in pidha order. The lingam in the sanctum is broken, sitting in its circular yonipitha just over a metre below today's ground level. Worth the short walk from Lingaraja, not a trip of its own.
