Badrinath is the one everyone means. It heads a group of seven Vishnu temples in the Alaknanda valley, with Adi Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Yogadhyan Badri, Vriddha Badri, Ardha Badri and Dhyan Badri making up the rest; a shorter five-temple circuit, Panch Badri, drops two of those. The name comes from badri van, the berry forest the old bridle path to Badrinath once ran through. Badrinath itself stands at 3,133 m, has road and air links, and opens between April or May and October or November, the exact day fixed on Vasant Panchami. The other six take real effort.
