One rock in the middle of the Kosi, with the shrine sitting sixty feet above the riverbed on top of it: that is Garjiya Devi, 14 km north of Ramnagar on the outskirts of Corbett. Inside stands a ninth-century Lakshmi-Narayan in black granite. People from the villages around come to worship daily, and many bathe in the river below. At Kartik Purnima, the full moon that falls in November or December, thousands arrive and the rock is hung with bulbs and diyas. Fold it into a Corbett trip rather than driving out for it alone.
