Most of the year this is a quiet Kalachuri-period Shiva temple in a village, protected as a monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. Mahashivratri is the exception: devotees from the villages around converge on it, and a small fair sets up alongside. Pick your day according to what you came for. If it is the stonework, come on any other day and you will have room to look at it properly. If you would rather see the temple doing the job it was built for, that is the one day it is full.
