Local belief holds that the Shivlinga is getting bigger, and devotees who come back each year say it was small once. Government officials measure it annually, so the claim at least gets checked. Either way it is already reckoned the second largest natural Shivlinga in the world, after Siddheshwarnath in Ziro, and Chhattisgarh recognises it as an Ardhnarishwara Shivlinga in the manner of the Dwadas Jyotirlingas. The temple stands in the middle of the Gariaband forests near Marouda village. Crowds arrive at Mahashivratri and on Sawan Mondays, carrying Mahanadi water from Rajim.
