The name is a family relationship: mama is a mother's brother, bhanja is his nephew, and the story goes that the two of them were handed the job of building this and finished it in a single day. Make of that what you will. What stands at Barsur is a Shiva temple now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, and it is worth the stop if Barsur is already on your route rather than a journey made for its own sake.
