Five acres inside the Bir Shikargah sanctuary, 8 km out of Pinjore, holding the world's largest breeding programme for Indian vultures — and, since the house sparrow started thinning out across Punjab and Haryana, for sparrows too. It opened in 2001 as Asia's first vulture breeding centre. The work done here identified diclofenac, given to cattle, as what was killing the birds, and the veterinary drug was banned across India in 2007-08 on the strength of it. This is a working conservation facility rather than an enclosure built for visitors, so ask about access before you make the drive.
