One of the oldest Kartikeya temples in North India, in the township of Pehowa. The deity is worshipped the length of the country under a long list of names — Murugan, Skanda, Shanmukha the six-faced, Kumara the child — and the Kushanas and the Yaudheyas both struck coins bearing his image, as the Ikshvakus and the Guptas honoured him. What you arrive at is a living shrine rather than a monument to photograph, so expect worship rather than sightseeing, and dress for it.

Each is tied to the legend of Sati, whose body parts fell across the Indian subcontinent and beyond, sanctifying the ground where they landed.
