Chandigarh took its name from this temple rather than the other way round, which is the fact worth carrying up the highway with you. The shrine is dedicated to Chandi, the goddess of power, and stands on NH-5 between Chandigarh and Kalka, in Panchkula, about 15 km out of the city with the Shivalik hills behind it. Mansa Devi is 10 km away, so do the two in one morning rather than on two separate trips. Start early. This is a temple on a busy national highway, and the quiet belongs to the first hour.
