Xuanzang came through in the 7th century and found the place already in ruins, only foundations left of a capital that had held a large Buddhist vihara and a stupa from Ashoka's time. That is roughly what you get today: the Sugh mound at Amadalpur Dayalgarh in Yamunanagar district, west of the Yamuna, which reads as a mound and little else unless you have read up first. The reason to make the trip stands 3 km northwest — the Chaneti stupa, probably Mauryan. Go for that and treat the mound as context.
