A brackish lagoon across three districts at the mouth of the Daya, second largest coastal lagoon in the world, and it changes size with the season, wide in the monsoon and well down by summer. The water runs fresh where rivers come in and as salty as the sea where the tide pushes back. Over 225 bird species use it, and it is a significant wintering ground for migratory waterbirds, so come in winter if birds are the point. Irrawaddy dolphins are here too, and 200,000 fisherfolk from more than 130 villages make their living on the water.
