Christianity in southern Manipur is dated from here. A Welsh missionary, Watkin Roberts, made the first converts among the Hmar and neighbouring tribes at Senvawn in 1910, and the village has carried that claim ever since. It is a Hmar village in Pherzawl district, 498 households at the 2011 census. The draw is entirely historical: what you come to see is a starting point rather than a monument, so read the story before you arrive or the visit will feel like very little.
