Dwarka Baoli

A Lodi-era stepwell survives in Sector 12 of Dwarka, on a barren strip between a housing society and a private school, and for years the peepal trees and undergrowth over it kept it out of everybody's sight. It was cut in the early sixteenth century for the village of Loharehri, which Dwarka was built on top of. Zafar Hasan's 1910 list of monuments records it as not very deep, with twenty-two steps, so temper your expectations: this is a small well under restoration, not a grand baoli. Ten minutes if you are already in Dwarka; not a trip across the city.
