Everything here came out of one man's fieldwork. Bulu Imam found Hazaribagh district's first rock art at Isco, brought more than a dozen meso-chalcolithic sites to light, and in 1991 opened this museum in his own building, a 1919 Tea Garden District Labour Association hall standing on three acres of trees. The cases run from Palaeolithic tools through Iron Age pottery to Buddhist pieces, with an ethnological gallery on the Birhors, Santhals and Oraons. The art is the better reason to come: about 200 Khovar marriage and Sohrai harvest paintings of Hazaribagh, gathered in one gallery. Ask about the research archive if they hold you.
