You can walk up the staircase or drive the motorable path; either way this 17th-century temple stands on a hillock about 10 km out of central Ranchi. It is built in the Kalinga style and looks like the Jagannath temple at Puri shrunk down, which is the honest description of it: the interest lies in the resemblance rather than the scale. The one time it fills is the Rath Yatra in Aashaadha, when the chariot festival and the fair pull thousands of tribal and non-tribal devotees from the city and the villages around.
