Locals still call it Angrabari; the name Amreshwar Dham came later, given by the Shankaracharya Swami Swarupananda Saraswati. It is a Shiva complex on the Khunti-Torpa road, 45 km from Ranchi and nine from the district headquarters, with shrines to Ganesha, Rama, Sita and Hanuman alongside the main one. On an ordinary day it makes an easy, unhurried stop on the way south. Through Sawan and on Maha Shivaratri the Shiva crowd fills it, and unhurried is the last word you would use.
