It doubles as a wildlife rescue clinic — injured animals and birds are brought in by the public, treated, and put back out when they recover — which is the more interesting half of the place. The blackbuck are the reason to come. Shatavar Vatika Herbal Park is a kilometre northeast if you want to make a morning of the pair.

According to tradition, this is where the ankle bone of Goddess Sati fell when Lord Vishnu's Sudarshana Chakra divided her body. Here the Goddess is worshipped as Savitri (Bhadrakali), and her guardian Bhairava (a form of Shiva) as Sthanu. Shakti Peethas are among the holiest pilgrimage sites for devotees of the Goddess, drawing pilgrims especially during Navratri and Durga Puja. Each is tied to the legend of Sati, whose body parts fell across the Indian subcontinent and beyond, sanctifying the ground where they landed.
